Anti-racism campaigners occupied the Dublin office of the News of the World at St Stephen's Green at the weekend, protesting about an article on illegal Romanian refugees which appeared on June 7th.

The article claimed thousands of Romanians were planning to enter the State illegally and live off social welfare. About 15 members of the Anti-Racism Campaign occupied part of the newspaper's office for over an hour as they waited to hand in a letter outlining their objections. They then left peacefully.

Mr John Camley, co-ordinator of the campaign, said that it was "one of the most appalling articles we've seen in a long time."

In a statement Mr Alex Marunchak, Senior Executive Editor of the News of the World, said: "We stand by our story."
