A teenager died in a Dublin hospital yesterday, three days after he was assaulted in Ballymun.

A teenager died in a Dublin hospital yesterday, three days after he was assaulted in Ballymun.

Mr Francis Gallagher (19), of Killcarrick Crescent, Tallaght had been in a critical condition in the Mater Hospital, but died as a result of the injuries sustained in the assault.

An 18-year-old Dublin man appeared before Dublin District Court yesterday morning charged in connection with the assault.

He was arrested yesterday and "was held under the provisions of Section 4, Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at Ballymun Garda Station," a Garda spokesman said.

Last night, it emerged that a decision was yet to be taken whether the charge faced by the teenager would now be changed. The deceased's body is to be moved to the City Morgue for a post mortem .
