Dublin is to receive an allocation of more than €107 million for local authority housing to meet expenditure in 2002.
The allocation is some €200,000 down on the amount allocated to the scheme in 2001.
The allocation will be used for the building or acquisition of houses by the city council, extensions and improvement of existing housing, and the provision of accommodation for travelling people.
Announcing the allocation this afternoon, the Minister of State at the Department of Environment, Mr Noel Ahern, said in addition to the 600 houses currently being built around the city an additional 500 houses would be completed in Ballymun by the end of the year.
The Minster also announced that the city council would be awarded a further €5.7 million under the Remedial Works Scheme to refurbish a number of flat complexes around the city.
