Republic of Ireland winger Damien Duff could be fit to face the Georgians on Wednesday after a scan this morning revealed no obvious damage to his hamstring.

Duff limped out of the last-gasp Euro 2004 victory over Albania yesterday afternoon amid fears he had torn, or at least strained, his hamstring.

However, after undergoing an MRI scan it appears the Dubliner has an inflammation to a tendon at the back of his knee, the result of a knock late in the game, and may be in line to start on Wednesday night.

Manager Brian Kerr has no other injury concerns ahead of the Georgian clash but will be desperate to have Duff, a constant thorn in the Albanian's side, available for selection.

Kerr, who will not risk Duff unless he is fully recovered, explained: "The scan this morning showed no obvious damage to the hamstring but there is soreness and inflammation on the tendon at the back of the knee.

"We'll see how he is tomorrow but he is sore. It the last game for everyone for a few weeks but we'll do what is right for the team and the player.

"So far when players have been injured we haven't played them unless they are fully right to play both physically and mentally.

"If it meant he wouldn't be fit for quite a while if he played in this match then that wouldn't be the right way to go."

Having overcome Albania, Ireland must now repeat the result against Georgia, who they beat 2-1 in Tbilisi at the end of March, and Kerr believes theGeorgians will be tougher opponents.

"I see them as a better team than Albania," added Kerr. "They have betterplayers all around the pitch. Kakha Kaladze played in the Champions League finalfor AC Milan and got a winner's medal, and they have two lads - Dundee's GiorgiNemsadze and Zurab Khizanishvili - who played in the Scottish Cup final and playevery week in the British style."
