New GAA director general Páraic Duffy will join LRC mediator Kieran Mulvey in attempting to broker an agreement in the players' dispute in Cork later today
Duffy is en route to Cork and is due to have talks with the players' representatives and the county board later this evening in a bid to end the long-running strike that threatens the county's participation in the hurling and football leagues.
GAA president Nickey Brennan had previously indicated that the Association would be unable to provide "any further assistance or involvement" in overcoming the impasse, but Duffy, who took over from Liam Mulvihill at the end of last week, clearly believes he has something to offer.
Speaking to RTÉ Radio earlier today, Duffy explained: "It's not a situation that anybody wants where both of the Cork teams are not participating in our leagues . . . everybody wants to make every possible effort to try and resolve this."
"I'm going with Kieran Mulvey to Cork this evening to meet the parties involved and see if we can find some way to break the logjam."
