Officials at Leopardstown will hold a 7am inspection before deciding whether today's heavy rain will lead to the postponement of tomorrow's meeting.

The bumper, eight-race card is due to feature two Group One contests including the much-anticipated Tattersalls Millions Champion Stakes which pits Aidan O'Brien's five-time Group One winner Duke of Marmalade and Jim Bolger's New Approach.

With the ground now being described by Leopardstown general manager Tom Burke as soft, Duke of Maramalade may not run even If the race goes ahead as planned.

The colt is very much a firm-ground performer and O'Brien told today's Racing Post:"we'll have to wait and see what happens with the weather and review the situation if necessary."

The going has also swung the betting pendulum towards New Approach as Jim Bolger's Derby winner nears his second clash in a fortnight with Duke Of Marmalade.

Totesport this evening had New Approach 11-10 favourite against the Ballydoyle challenger at 5-4.

And Tony Calvin, representative of betting exchange Betfair, said it was not surprising the market was now favouring New Approach at 11-8.

Bolger believes his charge is a good bet. "He is in great form and it looks like there is going to be something in there to make it a decent pace which we are happy about."

O'Brien also has King Of Rome and Red Rock Canyon declared for the illustrious 10 furlong event.

The Coolmore Fusaichi Pegasus Matron Stakes is also a major attraction but the south Dublin track has been deluged by rain today and although it abated, Burke was hoping for a largely dry night despite the forecast of more rainfall.

"We will have an inspection at 7am and we have had 45 millimetres of rain between 4am and 2pm," said Burke.

"There are bits of casual water on the track but that wouldn't be unusual when you get so much rain in a short period of time.

"We had a similar experience before our last meeting and we raced fine.

"It stopped raining at around 2pm but there is a risk of further showers tonight, although they tell me it should not be as bad as what we've had.

"Most of the track is surprisingly in good condition so we will have to see what the night brings."

His assessment is a little more upbeat compared to earlier in the day and officials have indicated that the entire card could be moved to Sunday if the course is deemed too sodden in the morning.
