THE Government's action to deal with crime is more appropriate than the simplistic solutions put forward by some commentators and Opposition politicians, Mr Alan Dukes TD said yesterday.
Speaking at the a.g.m. of the Fine Gael branch in Castledermot, Co Kildare, Mr Dukes said the evidence currently available suggested that the four recent murders were committed for different reasons.
He said the victims' communities could hardly have foreseen the murders, nor could the gardai. Mr Dukes said the Government, and the Minister for Justice in particular, were to be commended for their policy on crime.
He said it was worth remembering that most of the measures talked of by the Government were in place or planned before the recent murders.
