Dun Laoghaire/Rathdown council workers’ strike ends

A dispute between municipal workers and the county council in Dun Laoghaire/Rathdown appears to have been resolved

A dispute between municipal workers and the county council in Dun Laoghaire/Rathdown appears to have been resolved. Refuse collectors and other council workers had staged a three-day strike in protest at industrial relations procedures.

SIPTU, who is representing many of the workers, said this evening: "Proposals had been formulated which could pave the way for a resolution of the industrial dispute."

The Union said it would be recommending acceptance of the proposals to its members; the lifting of all pickets and a return to work tomorrow.

SIPTU’s Mr John Glennon said: "Under the proposals, all outstanding issues will either be addressed immediately or within an agreed time-frame."

The dispute had halted refuse collection in the area and caused the temporary closure of the Dean’s Grange and Shanganagh cemeteries because of picket lines.
