A Dundalk man was charged with membership of the IRA at a special sitting of the Special Criminal Court in Dublin on Saturday.
Mr Vincent McKevitt (43), of Mountain Court, Point Road, Dundalk was charged with membership of an unlawful organisation styling itself the Irish Republican Army, otherwise known as Oglaigh na hEireann, otherwise the IRA, on October 26th.
Det Sgt Dennis Fallon, Carrickmacross, gave evidence of arresting Mr McKevitt at his home at 6.21 a.m. on Thursday.
He said he arrested him on suspicion of possessing an explosive substance at Finnabarr Crescent, Dundalk on October 21st.
Det Insp Hugh Coll, Monaghan, said he released Mr McKevitt from his arrest under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act at 6.30 p.m. on Friday. He rearrested him under section 4 of the Criminal Law Act of 1997 on suspicion of membership of an illegal organisation.
Mr McKevitt spoke once during the brief hearing when he answered: "I am," when asked by the court registrar if he was Mr Vincent McKevitt.
The court remanded him in custody until next Friday when a bail application will be heard.
Mr McKevitt was one of three men arrested on Thursday by detectives. Two other two being held by gardai were released without charge.
