The European Physical Society has awarded its HelwettPackard prize for outstanding research in the physics of condensed matter to Dr T Maurice Rice, a native of Dundalk and graduate of UCD. He was nominated for his theoretical work which relates to new high temperature superconductors. The £23,300 prize was presented to Dr Rice a week ago in Grenoble by the president of the EPS, fellow Irishman, Prof Denis Weaire of TCD.
