Broadcaster Eamon Dunphy could be back on the airwaves at the end of the summer with Dublin station NewsTalk 106, it has emerged.
Negotiations between the broadcaster and NewsTalk are described as being at an "advanced stage".
A contract was recently presented to the former Today FM presenter, writer and journalist and he is studying the terms.
If agreement is reached, Mr Dunphy would start broadcasting in early September. Both parties have declined to comment on the negotiations over the last few months.
Mr Dunphy will not be replacing NewsTalk's drive time presenter Mr George Hook and is more likely to present a new morning show, possibly in opposition to RTÉ Radio One's Morning Ireland.
This is regarded as one of the most vital segments of the radio market with significant levels of in-car listenership.
