The daughter of the Rev Ian Paisley today secured an apology from her father's party in a sex-discrimination case.

Rhonda Paisley, a former Belfast councillor and lady mayoress, had taken an industrial tribunal case against the Democratic Unionist Party, claiming she was denied a party officer's post because she was a woman.

The statement said: "As a result, the DUP has already conducted a comprehensive review of its administration and recruitment procedures and has now put in place best-practice methodology for future staffing appointments.
