Dutch police have arrested six teenagers suspected of setting a Muslim school ablaze in one of a series arson attacks that followed the murder of outspoken filmmaker Theo van Gogh by a suspected Islamic militant.
Six suspects aged 14 to 17 were arrested yesterday and today, a spokeswoman for the public prosecution said. She declined to give further details.
A wave of arson attacks has targeted at least 15 mosques and Muslim schools since Van Gogh, whose criticism of Islam enraged many Muslims, was shot and stabbed as he cycled to work on November 2nd. Several Christian buildings were targeted in a tit-for-tat response.
A 26-year-old Dutch-Moroccan has been charged with the murder.
The six teenagers are suspected of having set fire to a Muslim school in the southern Dutch village of Uden. The words "Theo R.I.P." were scrawled on the walls of the school along with a "White Power" sign. Nobody was hurt.
