A man who is alleged to have had 11,534 images of child pornographic material stored on two computers at his Cork home has been remanded on bail.
Mr Francis Daams (55), a Dutch national with an address in Durrus in West Cork was charged with having images on his computer consisting of "children partially clothed, children naked, and children engaged in sexual acts."
Mr Daams was arrested this morning at 9.30 am and charged at Bandon Garda Station with offences contrary to Section 6.1 of the Child Trafficking and Pornagraphic Act 1998.
The court heard Mr Daams had been living in Ireland for 20 years. He was the sole carer for his wheelchair-bound wife and was in receipt of a carer's allowance.
He was remanded on his own bail of €5,000 to the next sitting of Bantry Court on March 26th.
Mr Daam's home was raided by gardai in May 2002 under Operation Amethyst, an international crackdown on internet child pornography.
