Newcastle midfielder Kieron Dyer has insisted that he wants to stay on Tyneside despite reports that champions Manchester United are prepared to smash the British transfer record to buy him.

It was claimed yesterday that Sir Alex Ferguson had seen a stg£15million bid for the 22-year-old England starlet rejected by the Magpies, but would return in the summer with a further offer of up to stg£20million.

"I am staying at Newcastle and that's all there is to it," he told the Newcastle Journal. "As far as I'm concerned, any talk of a stg£15million bid is ridiculous and nobody at the club knows anything about it.

"I'm flattered that my name keeps being linked other big clubs, but at the moment, all I'm concentrating on is getting fit.

"I won't go to the manager's door asking to leave St James' Park, and the club don't want me to leave. That's pretty conclusive - but I can't stop the speculation."
