Gavin Dykes has today been named as Derry City manager following Dermot Keely's resignation last week.
Dykes, a former centre half for Sligo Rovers, Derry and Finn Harps, was Keely's assistant at the Brandywell and at Kildare County. He is believed to have held meetings with players over the weekend and to have received positive feed back. The appointment will see Dykes in charge at the Brandywell until at least the end of the season.
Keely had only been in charge of Derry since July after taking over from Kevin Mahon but was under pressure following last weekend's two nil defeat to UCD at the Brandywell.
Keely commented on the lack of passion shown by his players and said that he was not confident he could guarantee the club's top flight status.
