RTE's Morning Ireland current affairs programme, which has the highest listenership of any show in the State, will start a half-hour earlier from next month.

The programme, which has a total audience of 485,000, had an increase of 4,000 listeners since last year, according to the latest JNLR/MRBI survey.

It will begin at 7 a.m from March 19th. The programme has been running since November 5th, 1984.

One of the show's presenters, Mr David Hanly, was one of the original presenters, along with current political correspondent, Mr David Daven Power.

Ms Helen Shaw, RTÉ's director of radio, said: "there's been consistent evidence over recent years that more and more people are moving earlier and earlier. Audiences post 7 a.m. are now as large as post 7.30 a.m.".

Other current presenters are Ms Áine Lawlor and Mr Cathal Mac Coille.
