Racing:Irish Turf Club officials will stage a course inspection at Gowran at 8.30am on Tuesday to assess the prospects of racing on Wednesday.
Although the course is currently raceable, an adverse weather forecast has prompted an early check.
Turf Club press officer Cliff Noone said: “They really want to make a decision one way or another before declaration time on Tuesday.
“The situation is not great as the forecast is unsettled, with lots of rain forecast and also the possibility of sleet and snow.”
Officials at Exeter will also inspect the their track tomorrow morning ahead of Wednesday's fixture.
With conditions already described as heavy and more rain forecast, clerk of the course Barry Johnson has decided to call an early check.
He said: "We've had 72 millimetres of rain in the last 10 days and the ground is heavy now with a few bad patches.
"I think we could get rid of those and if we were racing today I'd be fairly confident we'd get it on, but the forecast is fairly bleak.
"If we get another 10 millimetres tonight then we're going to be really struggling, so we have to hope the forecast is wrong."
