NICOSIA - The Orthodox Easter Sunday visit by 600 Greek Cypriot pilgrims tomorrow to St Andrew's Monastery in the Turkish occupied north was cancelled yesterday as Good Friday services took place in churches throughout the south, Michael Jansen reports.

Mr Waldemar Rokoszewski of the UN force in Cyprus (Unficyp) said the pilgrimage was called off because "the Turkish Cypriot side applied censorship and crossed off names from the list" of pilgrims submitted by the Greek Cypriot authorities.

Last Sunday, 400 Turkish Cypriots made a pilgrimage to the Hala Sultan Tekke mosque near the southern port of Larnaca. They were warmly greeted at the Green Line in Nicosia by Greek Cypriots bearing olive branches.
