Dundalk and Cork are preparing for an influx of enthusiastic teachers for a series of workshops on film this weekend, entitled Lights, Camera, Study.
Teachers of Leaving Cert English will participate in a series of classes on the practical approaches to teaching film, which is part of the comparative study method on the revised syllabus. A second strand of the inservice course will focus on teaching video production techniques to Transition Year students.
The two in-service courses have been organised by the Teachers' Association for Media Education. In Dundalk the course will be held in St Vincent's Secondary School between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., with workshops on Dances with Wolves, Cinema Paradiso and an introduction for teachers to Transition Year video production methods. For those heading south to Cork city, the course will be held in the Kino Cinema, beginning at 9.15 a.m.
