AS CORK RTC ("Cork Institute of Technology") awaits movement on the issue of its redesignation it is appropriate that Thursday sees a lecture in the college on the growth and development of science and technical education in Cork.

The lecture, entitled A Tide Slowly Flooding, will be given by Professor Kieran R Byrne, professor of education and vice president of the University of Limerick. Byrne is also a member of the Higher Education Authority.

The lecture starts at 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 17th, in Cork RTC. Admission is free.

In fact, Cork RTC is a hive of activity at present. Our very own Tom Mathews has an exhibition, A Bit Off the Wall, opening in the colleges exhibition centre on Friday at 1 p.m. The exhibition includes over 40 of Tom's illustrations and, if nothing else, should put a smile of the face of anyone who browses among its contents.
