The "Books for Uganda" project wants new and secondhand books (including school books) for the Masaka Kitabiro Library in Masaka diocese, Uganda. Masaka District has an estimated population of 1.2 million and no public libraries. Rev Peter Bakka, diocesan librarian, says the proposed library "is intended to be the hub-library for the more than 500 primary schools and more than 70 secondary schools'.' All books, "ranging from children's books to specialised ones" will, he says, be most welcome. You can deliver books to 120 Rathgar Road for southside Dublin and Kingsley Transport, 133A Slaney Road, Glasnevin for the northside. The project aims to have all books collected by this Friday and is looking for help transporting them to Dublin airport. Further information from Patricia Lydon at (01) 4963919 or fax (01) 4926337.
