Art Call: Calling all creative, artistic, nature-loving primary pupils - the National Conservation Education Centre, Enniskerry, Co Wicklow, is running an art-and-poetry competition for classes from first class to sixth class. Each child can write a poem or draw a picture of an autumn scene in a wood with the animals, plants, flowers, leaves, berries and nuts. There will be two winners from each class. Entries must be submitted before the end of November. Winners will get £10 book tokens and all classes of winning schools will be invited to the centre's education programme free of charge. The top prize will involve helping with the painting at the centre of a 16x18ft autumn mural in Knocksink Wood beside Enniskerry. UCG Date: The annual open day at UCG will be held this Saturday to provide Leaving Cert students with an opportunity to meet faculty staff and to get advice and information which will enable them choose the course and prepare for the career most suited to them. There will be demonstrations in the science labs and tours to various college faculties incuding the Martin Ryan Marine Science Institute, the Clinical Science Institute, the Library and the college accommodation apartments at Baile na Coiribe. Registration for the open day begins at 9.30 a.m. This will be followed by introductory lectures. Students may attend independently or with a school group. DIT Sessions: More DIT information sessions will run this week betweeen 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. Tonight there's an opportunity for students and parents to attend a session about property economics at Bolton Street. Kevin Street will host an evening on electrical/ electronic engineering. Tomorrow Kevin Street concentrates on catering/ bakery courses. Engineering (building, services/ mechanical/ manufacturing/ structural) will be the focus at Bolton Street. Next Monday students interested in communications should attend Kevin Street while over in Bolton Street, buildings maintenance is on the timetable.

Tune In: Students who want to tap into live discussions about new technologies and other issues affecting learners may like to set aside an hour each Saturday from now on. Concerts: Students of music in the Dublin area may like to attend Saturday lunchtime concerts at the National Gallery to commemorate the centenary of the death of Brahms and the bicentenary of the birth of Schubert. During this autumn series, senior students of the Royal Irish Academy of Music will perform some of the greatest chamber music by both composers. Concerts start at 1.05 p.m. Price - £2.
