A number of colleges now offer PLC courses in travel and tourism. CERT offers a two-year full-time course in tourism and a one-year full-time course in travel agency skills. Both include work placements.
For CERT's national craft certificate in tourism, subjects include tourism studies, tourism retail and service skills, customer relations, IT, a European language and communications. The course includes a six-month work placement. Successful completion of the course qualifies you for an entry-level position in cultural, heritage or leisure tourism.
CERT's one-year full-time course in travel agency skills involves three days in college and two days work placement per week. The course prepares students for professional employment in the travel industry. Subjects include travel geography, air-faries fares and ticketing, IT, travel formalities, booking conditions and legal issues.
