Close to 40,000 students accept first round CAO offers

50 per cent received first preference with round two offers to be issued on Thursday

Around 38,000 college-goers have accepted offers under the first round of the CAO system which closes today.

Applicants have until 5.15 pm to accept round one offers.

By 3.30 pm today, 37,900 students had accepted offers.

Some 39,398 offers had been made for level 8 (higher degree) courses in round one, with 50 per cent of applicants receiving their first preference. A further 34,615 offers had been made at level 6/7 (higher diploma or ordinary degree).

Round two offers will be issued on Thursday, August 28th. Courses that did not fill initially are available to students on the CAO vacant places list at www.cao.ie
