How do you persuade them you're worth an interview?: By demonstrating your interest in and suitability for public relations, is the advice of programme director Francis Carty. If necessary, use extra pages. Remember, you'll be eliminated for poor spelling and untidy forms.

If called to interview, treat it as a job interview and show you have researched the field. Don't say: "I love meeting people."

What are the interviewers looking for?: Articulate team players with well-rounded personalities. There's no room for shrinking violets.

How long has the course been running?: Since 1997. Before that it was a postgraduate diploma course.

Does it have a good employment record?: Looks like it. Of the 23 students who graduated in 1999, 22 are working in public relations.

Course content: Subjects to be examined include the theory and practise of public relations, management, the philosophical and cultural environment, the political environment, the legal and marketing environments and communications theory. Projects include management, public relations writing, design/print and desktop publishing, public relations programmes and presentation skills. The dissertation accounts for almost one-third of the total marks.
