Glen Hansard: Lead singer, The Frames
Current job: Lead singer, The Frames.
What school did you attend? Ballymun Comprehensive.
Hidden talents at school? Bilateralism. . . managing to appear like I was in the room, when in fact I was running over the hills with the wind in my hair.
Best subject? English and religion.
Worst subject? Maths
Most inspirational teacher and why? Frankie Byrne, our head teacher, because he was a DJ and because I spent so much time with him for not paying attention and we would get into the best conversations about Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen. He eventually advised me to pursue music as a career. Also, there was another teacher in my primary school, who told my mother he would leave school if he had to teach me for another year. Turns out he's a contemporary composer. I've seen a couple of his concerts, and never had the nerve to talk to him.
What's your best memory of school? Being advised to leave.
Your worst memory? The feeling of dread each morning being late again and sneaking into the class with no homework done.
What song most reminds you of your school days? It's a Long Way to the Top if You Wanna Rock 'n' Roll by AC/DC
