IF cooking for Christmas fills you with anticipation or dread, then a festive cookery course may be timely. Due to demand, Ballymaloe Cookery School is putting on two extra courses in the run up to the big day.

Residents of the Carlow/Kilkenny area may also be interested two courses being run by Danette O'Connell at her restaurant just outside Carlow town. The subjects on the chopping block will be vegetarian cooking and wine tasting. November 19th is devoted to food while Cork wine expert Kevin Parsons will take the floor on the morning of the November 20th to conduct a wine tasting with particular emphasis on New World wines.
On December 3rd and 4th, the course is called unique Christmas and it will cover topics such as food presents and hassle-free Christmas cooking. It may be possible to join the classes for individual sessions and further information is available by phone or fax (0503) 40817.
Age and Opportunity is a national agency set up in 1988 to change attitudes towards ageing. It works to encourage older people to participate fully in the community and to create opportunities for older people to use their skills and talents to the common good.
The agency is involved in a wide variety of initiatives with local, national, cross-Border and international groups covering the arts, sport, education and information technology for older people.
It also has an information resource centre at its base in Dublin and produces a regular newsletter. The agency keeps information on a range of topics which may be of interest to older people or those working in the care or voluntary sectors.
