Welcome to the Irish Times/skoool.ie Leaving Certificate study guides. Beginning today, The Irish Times will publish study guides to six Leaving Cert subjects. Each one will also provide general tips on how to make the most of the study time still available between now and June.

Skoool.ie is the new education website launched last week by the Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern. The site has been developed by The Irish Times, AIB and Intel.

Skoool.ie provides free interactive online tuition in science and business studies. Interactive lessons in all the main Leaving Cert subjects are also being developed.

Beginning today, the Exam Centre on the skoool.ie website also features revision and subject study notes. The study notes published over the next six weeks in these special EL supplements will give students, parents and teachers a taste of what is on offer on skoool.ie.

We hope the guides will complement the work of the class teachers and provide practical help for students as they begin the final phase of revision for the summer exams. These guides should be seen as an aid to the work being done in schools, not a substitute for it.

Each of the study guides is written by experts in the various subject areas. To ensure the guides provide the best possible advice, we have

also consulted a recognised expert and experienced teacher in each subject.

Today's guide to Leaving Cert English has been read and introduced by Kate Bateman, until recently chairperson of the Association of Teachers of English (ATE).

It is hoped that the skoool.ie site will provide sound, sensible advice and we hope the study guides will be a helpful aid to Leaving Cert students' study plans in the coming weeks.
