Joyce for kids

Just because you can't finish Ulysses doesn't mean your children shouldn't have a go

Just because you can't finish Ulysses doesn't mean your children shouldn't have a go. The Ark Cultural Centre for children in Dublin's Temple Bar has come up with a unique way to make James Joyce palatable to the under 12s.

As this year marks the 100th anniversary of Bloomsday, The Ark has created an event to celebrate Joyce's masterpiece in a fun, fast- paced adventure for nine- to 12-year-olds.

Bloom's journey took him around Dublin; The Ark has devised a game, The Bloomsday Challenge, which brings children on their own epic journey to ancient Greece to hear the stories of Homer, which Joyce took as his starting point. Then with a bit of trickery and time-travel they will go to Dublin in 1904, and the occasion of the first Bloomsday. The game finishes with a battle of wits, when teams battle to discover who will become the Bloomsday Challenge Champions.

The Bloomsday Challenge runs at The Ark until June 19th.
