Libraries take to the IT highway

Net Surfing: THE public library in Ballyfermot, Dublin, is now online

Net Surfing: THE public library in Ballyfermot, Dublin, is now online. The launch of the facility last month means that visitors to the library now have free access to the Internet, the World Wide Web, to multimedia titles and to PCs. Public libraries in Castlebar and Limerick City are to follow shortly. Microsoft, one of the key sponsors, explains that this is part of a programme to reach out to families, students and individuals who lack access to modern communications technology. The library in Ballyfermot has been packed to capacity since the service was introduced, according to Microsoft.
