The long-term unemployed and disabled would be better equipped for the workforce if literacy programmes were more focused, says the National Adult Literacy Agency (NALA). Two reports outline how more comprehensive and inclusive literacy training could help both Community Employment (CE) participants, and people with learning disabilities, get jobs and so "help employers alleviate staff shortages". The first report, on the pilot CE Return to Education programme, proposes more intensive literacy tuition. The second provides guidelines for including adults with learning disabilities on literacy schemes.
