The Pre-University Centre in Upper Fitzwilliam Street, Dublin, caters for about 150 students - 50 repeats, 50 fifth form and 50 sixth form. Fees are £2,250 for an academic year. The PUC operates a full 9 a.m.-5 p.m. day with supervised study which is compulsory. There are facilities for evening study. Classes last an hour and a student can expect to have between two and five classes a day. A roll call is taken at the beginning of each class and parents are advised immediately of a student's absence. The PUC is multi-denominational. Classes are not given in religious education. A bus takes students to the ESB Sportsco centre on Wednesday afternoons for games.

Bruce College in South William Street, Dublin, offers a two-year full-time programme for fifth year and sixth year, a sixthyear programme and a repeat Leaving Cert. Bruce also offers Christmas and Easter revision courses, evening grind classes on Thursdays and Fridays and Saturday classes. Fees range from £900 per year for one subject to £2,600 for eight subjects. The school day is "very structured" - it runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is a roll call every hour and parents are immediately advised about nonattendance. Lunch is from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Study is strictly supervised - students are expected to be either in class or the study hall. There is supervised study in the evenings, too, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9.30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Religious education is not taught. There are no sports facilities. Bruce has colleges in Limerick and Cork.

The Institute of Education in Leeson Street, Dublin, offers a two-year, full-time day Leaving Cert course. It has recently set up a fifth-form college within that two-year course. The fifth-form college fee is £2,250 per academic year. The Institute offers a full school day between 8.30 a.m. and 3.30 p.m. each week day, except on Thursday, when there is a half day. On that day a coach takes students to ESB Sportsco for games. Religious education is not taught. Classes are one-hour long and supervised study begins at 8.30 a.m. each morning. Homework is compulsory, student must sign in each morning and parents are telephoned if a student fails to appear.

Ashfield College in Templeogue, Dublin, offers a two year fifth- and sixth-year course as well as a seventh year, repeat year course. Revision courses are offered at Christmas and Easter during the Leaving Cert year and grinds are available in the evenings from fifth year. Annual fees are £2,200.
