www.ahead.ie

The Association for Higher Education Access and Disability is an independent voluntary organisation working to promote improved access for persons with disabilities to third-level education in Ireland. It provides clear, concise information such as the name and contact address for the members of staff in colleges, North and South, with responsibility for students with disabilities. A very worthy and useful site and a fine use of the power of the Internet.

www.fas.ie

Established in January 1988, the State's training and employment authority was long seen as a joke. Not anymore, now that their remit seems to be to get people into genuine jobs rather than give them something to do instead of being on the dole. There is now even a FAS International branch! A very useful facility allows you to put your CV online for prospective employers to read. A very professional and well- designed site.

The education service of Leargas works throughout Ireland to promote, develop and reinforce the European and international dimensions of education. It also manages the adult education and school-related actions of the EU Socrates programme and administers bilateral exchange programmes with Northern Ireland, Britain and Canada. The seminars and funding sections are out of date but most of what you need should be here.

www.ncte.ie

The National Centre for Technology in Education, which is based in DCU, has a colourful homepage. Dealing with information and communications technologies and education, it has similar problems to the Leargas site in that some of the information is out of date. It talks about having "all schools connected to the Internet by September 1998". Better to tell us if that aim was achieved and to list all the schools' web addresses.

www.ie.aiesec.org

Set up in 1948, AIESEC (pronounced eye-sec, and it doesn't say what the letters stand for) claims to be the world's largest student-managed, non-profit, educational organisation. Slogan: "Young, professional, progressive, innovative and global". Based in 84 countries worldwide, AIESEC aims to provide members with leadership and interpersonal skills to complement their education. Maybe it's just what you're looking for.
