Celebrations of film are the flavour of the month. Galway's sixth Junior Film Fleadh reels off to a start tomorrow and runs until Saturday while Dublin's 11th Junior Film Festival opens this Sunday, and goes on until December 5th.
The Dublin festival takes place in the IFC, UCI Cinemas and Bray Cineplex and opens with The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle, the story of an animated moose and squirrel.
The wide range of films on show will include Silence de la Peut, which looks at violence in the lives of young people, and Aidan Walsh - Master of the Universe, the story of the 1980s Irish musician and rock entrepreneur.
The IFC will host two workshops on November 21st with director/ writer Gerry Stembridge giving one and playwright, actor and musician Roger Gregg giving one on writing. Would-be film critics will be invited to enter the Young Film Critics competition and prizes will be awarded.
The Galway event will be screening films made for, about and by young people in the Town Hall Theatre. Other activities will include film-making and animation workshops. There will be a visit to TG4 and Concord studios and an opportunity for children between seven and 13 to make their own animations.
This year's international features section will have Girls on Film as its theme and will look at how teenage girls are represented in modern cinema.
