Moving to unleash the power of youth

DANCE/CATHERINE FOLEY:  Michael Flatley had better watch out

DANCE/CATHERINE FOLEY:  Michael Flatley had better watch out. Participants in a programme created by Coiscéim Dance Theatre are about to learn how to unleash their creativity.

The programme was developed last year. This year it continues in centres in Letterkenny, Sligo, Galway, Causeway in Co Kerry and Waterford, where one-day workshops will be held this month and next. The aim is "to awaken their creative possibilities through movement," says Mary Folan of Coiscéim.

The programme is called Ezimotion. Last year, a selection of interested young people were offered the chance to take part at venues around the country. The workshops were guided and overseen by Jak Ahluwalia, who has created and implemented similar projects in Britain.

This year, phase two gets underway with the aim of encouraging participants from phase one, who now have "a more developed sense of themselves and their abilities", to put their knowledge to good use and "dare to be creative themselves".
