Four Irish students who brought two projects to the recent prestigious ThinkQuest Internet Challenge in Geneva, Switzerland, have returned covered in the glory of having taken silver. Robin Blandford of Sutton Park School, Dublin, went to Geneva with "IFairground", an interactive guide to science and engineering on which he collaborated, on the Internet, with two US students.

Dermot Duffy, Owen Foley and Kevin Brew of Ashbourne Community School, Co Meath, presented "Carbon is Four Ever", an aid to the study of chemistry through a James Bond-style adventure. The boys' wins mean each student will receive $5,000, with awards going too to their coaches and schools.

ThinkQuest Internet Challenge, promoted in Ireland by Eircom, is an international, non-profit programme that encourages postprimary students to design educational websites. Out of the 6,800 worldwide entries only 24 sites and 70 students were selected as finalists. Anyone interested in taking part in next year's competition can get details on www.thinkquest.org.
