Kenya has done away with the publication of school league tables for primary schools, in a move that has sparked debate about educational standards in the country. Critics say that doing away with the ranking system for exam results means parents will have a harder time pushing for intervention to improve the performance of their children's schools. The Kenyan ranking system was based on the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams. The majority of children who complete the KCPE do not go on to secondary education because of a shortage of places.
