Junior Cert Greek had the distinction of being the last of the classics, the last language and of course the very last subject to be examined in this year's Junior Cert exams.

It was also a "very fair and reasonable exam", Micheal Crudden, a teacher in Alexandra College, Dublin, said. "There were no unpleasant surprises - this paper really rewarded the well-prepared student."

Questions 1 and 2 on the prescribed prose were "perfectly acceptable", while question 3, the unseen passage was, "a bit on the difficult side but still doable", he said.

Crudden found the comprehension in question 4 quite tough but said most students should be able to cope with it.

There was nothing unusual in the English to Greek translations in question 5, he said, and questions 6 and 7 on history and civilisation respectively were "eminently fair".
