No work is all play

More than half the respondents to a survey of second-level students in Belfast are involved in part time work

More than half the respondents to a survey of second-level students in Belfast are involved in part time work. Play fair with working children, the report on these findings, was launched last week by Save the Children. Based on the views of students from 12 second-level schools, it would appear that, while most young people enjoy working, they realise they are not treated fairly, without rights to a minimum wage or complaints procedure and getting very little information about laws which affect their working lives. The report recommends that while young people should have a right to work, new laws regulating child employment should be sensitive to the realities of their working lives.
