Café Scientifique Meeting: This month's public meeting for Café Scientifique (mid-west region) in conjunction with Limerick Institute of Technology will be held in Liam O'Rian's pub, Ballina/Killaloe, Co Tipperary on April 20th at 7pm. Dr Dan Minchin of the Lough Derg Science Group, will give a public talk entitled Alien Invader - The Zebra Mussel.

Café Scientifique is a place for people to gather to explore the latest ideas in science and technology. Admission is free and all are welcome. For further information tel: 061-490111.

Irish Primary Principals' Network Workshops

Prof Michael Fullan, an international expert on educational leadership, in association with the Irish Primary Principals' Network (IPPN), will facilitate three one-day workshops entitled Leading in a Culture of Change. Workshops take place in Athlone on Monday, May 8th, Kilkenny on Tuesday, May 9th and in Maynooth on Wednesday, May 10th.

UCD Scholarship Programme

The UCD 150 Scholarship Programme is offering a €€9,000 scholarship to one student from each of the 32 counties of Ireland. This scholarship programme, which commemorates the 150th anniversary of the university, aims to assist talented and motivated students who would not otherwise have the opportunity to further their studies. It offers financial support to students facing economic barriers to accessing third-level education.

The scholarships are on offer to first-year undergraduate students entering UCD in September 2006. They do not entitle the holder to free on-campus accommodation, but UCD 150 Scholars will be given priority when accommodation at Belfield is being allocated to first-year students. The scholarship is paid over the first three years of an undergraduate degree programme.

Lunchtime Operas at the DIT Conservatory of Music

Opera Ireland, in conjunction with with DIT Conservatory of Music, is celebrating Mozart's 250th birthday by staging a "Da Ponte Cycle", featuring his three most frequently performed operas - The Marriage of Figaro, Don Giovanni and Cosi Fan Tutte - which he created in collaboration with librettist Lorenzo Da Ponte.

This is Opera Ireland's fifth collaboration with the DIT Conservatory of Music in a scheme which provides an opportunity for young Irish singers to further their operatic careers. The operas will be performed at the Gaiety Theatre, Dublin, on April 27th, 28th, 29th and 30th at 1pm.Tickets are €€5 (Booking charges may apply).

IT Sligo Archaeology Lectures

In the final lecture in the series, Chris Read, who lectures on the BSc in applied archaeology course, will talk about recent archaeological excavations at Kilteasheen, Co Roscommon on Wednesday, April 26th at 1.10pm, in C1004 in the business building.
