The Dublin Theatre Festival, running from Monday, October 6th, to Saturday October 18th, will include five productions aimed at young people this year. Companies from Canada, Denmark, the Netherlands and Israel will visit The Ark cultural centre for children in Dublin's Temple Bar as part of the festival's programme. There will be special performances for schools and families.

Collectively called the NCB Children's Season at The Ark, the productions are , a Canadian production for eight to 13-year-olds; Scraping the Surface, also from Canada, for 10 to 14-year-olds; A Touch of Light from Israel, for seven to nine-year-olds; The Amazing Adventures of Mr De Wit, from the Netherlands, for three to five-year-olds and Henry and the Seahorse from Denmark, for the five to seven-yearolds. Galway will offer young people a feast of culture and fun later this year. Baboro, a new international children's festival running for four days from Tuesday, October 14th, is to be an annual event aimed at young people from three to 16 years of age. It will include theatre performances from all over the world as well as workshops, readings, concerts and special events. Would-be Francophones can take part in a new competition being run by TV5 over the next month. Viewers of the channel, which run programmes from the French-speaking world, will be invited to answer 28 questions about the world's major cities. From next Monday to Sunday, October 12th, one question will be asked daily by Eve Biazzi at particular times during the day. The questions will also be available on TV5's teletext service. The winner will get a holiday for two to La Reunion, an Francophone island in the Indian Ocean. Runners-up will receive books and multimedia CD roms.

THE National Gallery is running a free programme for young people on Saturdays at 3 p.m. this winter. This Saturday's event, entitled "take a line for a walk," will be under Geraldine O'Reilly's direction. Check out Room 14 at the gallery where the Children's Art Exhibition will be held from Wednesday, September 17th, until the end of October.
