Drama League of Ireland Summer School: The 39th Drama League of Ireland annual residential summer school will be held at NUI Maynooth from July 31st until August 7th.
There will be courses in acting, directing, comedy and physical theatre for drama enthusiasts with all levels of experience aged 18 and over. A special five-day non-residential course for teachers/youth leaders is also included.

A Taste of UCD For Adult Learners
UCD's Adult Education Centre is running a "taster" programme for mature students, which ends tomorrow. Adult learners are invited to attend a series of evening lectures, workshops and guidance clinics at UCD. On offer is a preview of university life and a chance to meet staff from UCD's return to learning and access courses. Sample lectures will be given by leading UCD academics. Adult education specialists will give workshops on study skills and adult guidance and current mature students will recount their experiences of studying at UCD.
On Thursday, Dr Hugh Brady, president of UCD, will address an invited audience and will preside over an award ceremony for current access and return to learning students, who will receive their NUI certificates.

M Litt Scholarship in the NUI Maynooth Education Department
Applications are invited for the award of a research scholarship to undertake postgraduate research in the following priority area of the project Teaching and Learning for the Twenty-First Century (TL21) - The teaching of mathematics in the post-primary school. Applicants should be experienced, creative post-primary teachers of mathematics. A high honours primary degree is the normal entry requirement for the M Litt Degree. For the M Litt in Education, provision exists whereby distinguished educational experience or publication record in education may be accepted as an alternative. Applicants for this scholarship should also have recent experience of working with post-primary teachers in areas of pedagogical innovation.
The scholarship is for 30,000 each per year, over a two-year or three-year period, commencing at the start of the academic year 2004-05.

Unmarried Mothers in Ireland
The University of Limerick hosts a conference entitled "Unmarried Mothers in Twentieth Century Ireland: Cultural Reflections" from June 24th - 25th. The conference aims to explore the different ways in which the discourse of femininity has been deployed for Irish women, with a special focus on contemporary cultural attempts at redefining, revising and questioning what it meant for single mothers in 20th-century Ireland. Keynote speakers include Gerardine Meaney of UCD and film director Aisling Walsh, director of Sinners and Song for a Raggy Boy.

Irish Hospice Foundation Certificate in Children and Loss
This training course is run by the Irish Hospice Foundation and is certified by the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI).
The course has special relevance for those involved with children and young people experiencing loss through death or separation. Presentations on younger children and bereavement, adolescents, the dying child, children and other losses and therapeutic interventions with children will be included.

Crawford College of Art and Design Degree Show
The annual Crawford College of Art and Design Degree show opens in Cork on Friday, June 18th. The exhibition will be held in the Sharman Crawford campus and will run until the June 26th.
The range of work will include large-scale installations, video art, textiles and papermaking, kinetic sculpture, ceramics, foundry works, stone carving, painting, print, photography, and glass. Exhibition hours are
10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (closed Sunday).
Interior Design Final Year Show Griffith College, Dublin
The Faculty of Design, Griffith College Dublin, hosts its final year show of interior architecture and interior design. The show will also feature the work of students in the final year of photography, video and film from the faculty of journalism and media communications and runs until Friday, June 18th.
