Education Development in Africa - Irish Primary Schools WantedLink Community Development is an international education-focused development organisation working in Ghana, Malawi, South Africa and Uganda which aims to improve education for children.

Link is currently looking for Irish primary school principals and teachers to take part in its Global Teachers Programme which is centred around a five-week placement in a school in Africa, and for primary schools in Ireland to link with schools in Africa as part of its Link Schools Programme. These Irish Aid-funded programmes enable Irish schools and teachers to help Link with its work in Africa, and also bring development education into schools in Ireland.

As part of the spring lecture series at IT Sligo, Jude Clancy will give a lecture entitled "Reuse of soil waste" today at 1.15pm in Room C1006. The generation and disposal or reuse of waste soil is a major issue in large infrastructural developments and the lecture looks at options for reuse. All welcome.

Tomorrow, "Death and burial at the Carrowkeel passage tomb complex" is the title of a talk by Sam Moore of IT Sligo. The lecture is in Room C1004 at 1.10pm.

"Radionuclides in soil and plant tissue" by Carmel Moran of IT Sligo School of Science takes place in Room C1006 at 1.15pm on Tuesday, February 20th.

On Wednesday, March 7th, Dr Marion Dowd will give a talk entitled "A re-assessment of Viking activity in Dunmore Cave, Co Kilkenny, in light of recent radiocarbon dates", also in Room C1004 at 1.10pm.

Finally Wednesday, May 2nd is the date of "Using trace elements in archaeological bone as social and dietary indicators for ancient populations", a lecture by Dr Ted McGowan. All are welcome to attend the lectures, which are free of charge.

Here to Stay - Documentary film screening at Dublin City University

The documentary Here to Stay follows Filipina nurse, Fidel Taguinod, over a two-year period in Ireland. Taguinod is employed as a nurse but also works as a migrant activist and gay performer. The film examines his life in each of these spheres, following him in his role as an overseas nurse, observing his working relations with patients, consultants and Irish and other overseas nursing staff. It also observes him in his world outside the hospital environment.

The film will be screened at DCU in Room HG23, School of Nursing, on Wednesday, February 21st from 1pm to 3pm. Admission is free and is open to all. Snacks and drinks will be provided free of charge
