Young Social Innovators "Speak Out" forumsMore than 5,000 young people are participating in Young Social Innovators (YSI) 2007.
The social awareness programme includes a series of "Speak Out" forums around the State where young people can speak out on the social issues that concern them and outline the action they are taking to solve them.
The forums are also an opportunity for schools and youth educational centres to find out more about YSI.
The final forum is on Thursday at Griffith College, South Circular Road, Dublin at 9.30am.

GMIT Public Lecture Series
A new series of public lectures is taking place in Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT), Castlebar. The lectures, each of which will take place every Wednesday until March 28th, cover areas such as sociology and heritage, business and technology, outdoor education, nursing and health sciences, architecture and construction, and engineering and environment.
Tomorrow's lecture is Caring for the Elderlyby Kathleen Taheny-Murphy, lecturer in nursing. Learning Outdoors by Stephen Hannon is on March 7th.
A lecture entitled The 150th Anniversary of Admiral William Browne: Local man - South American Herowill be delivered by by JJ O'Hara on March 14th.
Building Energy Ratings for Domestic Dwellingsby Gerard O'Donnell, lecturer in mechanical engineering, is on March 21st and From Institution to Institute: An Architectural Profile of St Mary's Hospital, Castlebarby Elizabeth Lynch, lecturer in architecture, is on March 28th.
All lectures take place in the Morrogh Bernard Lecture Theatre, GMIT Castlebar on Wednesdays at 8pm. They are open to the public and admission is free.

Public Lecture Series on China
A public lecture series on China will run in the Central Library, Cork at 7.30pm each Tuesday in February and March.
Dr Wang Jianhui will give a talk on Chinese medicine today. The title of Dr Huan Xiong's talk on March 6th is Women in China Today and Yesterday. On March 13th Dr Jorn-Carsten Gottward will speak on China Today. Prof Fan Hong's second talk, which takes place on March 20th, is entitled The Window of China: Beijing Olympic Games.
The series will conclude on March 27th with Shih Cheng-Hung, who will speak on Chinese Cuisine.

Dyslexia In-Service Course for Teachers
The aim of the course, which runs over five Saturdays (March 3rd, 10th, 24th and April 21st and 28th), is to provide a theoretical and practical understanding of dyslexia.
The course will introduce the subject by providing a summary of the current research around aspects of dyslexia. Subsequent sessions will look at behavioural indicators of dyslexia, the practical implications for the dyslexic student in the classroom and how the school can create an effective learning environment. The teaching of phonics, reading comprehension, writing and spelling are dealt with in depth.
