Dyslexia Association Conference

The Dyslexia Association of Ireland will host its fifth European conference, "Living with Dyslexia", at the Helix, Dublin City University on Saturday, April l7th. Keynote speakers are Dr T.G. West, author of In the Mind's Eye, Prof Margaret Snowling from the University of York and Jo Todd, a consultant on dyslexia in the workplace.

Introduction to University Programme (IUP) at UL Campus

The University of Limerick is offering a summer programme covering third-level education and career choices and designed specifically for pre-Leaving Certificate students.

The IUP is a one-week programme of interactive learning that allows students to gain practical experience of different career options. The course encourages students to gain an understanding of key third-level disciplines and to become better equipped to take the important career decisions they face.

The IUP provides a guide to successful studying and to the academic and recreational resources of a university. It addresses the difficulties associated with the transition from second- to third-level education.

Two one-week programmes are being offered - from June 14th to June 18th and June 21st to June 25th. The programme costs €220 per student. Accommodation can be arranged on campus at an additional cost of €110. Arts Council Schools' Exhibition Linkage Programme

Ten exhibitions of art works, commissioned by the Arts Council, using the work of almost 100 artists form part of a new Schools' Exhibition Linkage Programme between the council and the Department of Education's teacher/education centres. The scheme aims to give young people, teachers and the wider school community an opportunity to experience and interact with high-quality innovative visual artwork by contemporary Irish artists and architects.

The 10 exhibitions of art works, which include work by Brian Maguire, Louis Le Brocquy and Pauline Bewick, are available on loan from the teacher/education centres throughout the State. Chemistry, Health and the Environment

Dr Mary Archer, chairwoman of Addenbrooke's NHS Trust and president of Britain's National Energy Foundation, will give a public lecture on Monday, April 19th at 5.30 p.m. in the Science Lecture Theatre, Chemistry Department, Trinity College Dublin. The lecture is hosted by the Society of Chemical Industry, Republic of Ireland section. All welcome.
