Open Day NUI Galway
NUI Galway's annual open day takes place on Thursday, December 2nd, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Second-level, access and mature students can get information on the academic programmes provided and academic staff from the university's 52 departments will be available at the exhibition stands to answer queries and provide detailed subject and course information.
On the day, students are requested to go to the assembly point in the Quadrangle, where they will be given directions to introductory lectures and exhibition areas. Guided tours of the campus will be provided throughout the day. These will include visits to the Clinical Science Institute (medical school), the Martin Ryan Institute, the Arts Millennium Building, Áras na Gaeilge, Student Accommodation and Sports Facilities.
There will also be laboratory demonstrations in the Departments of Physics and Chemistry. Students will have the opportunity to visit the information technology labs and the Applied Languages Centre.
Parents are welcome to attend.
Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art Design Open Days
There will be an open day for prospective students, their parents and teachers at Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art Design and Technology, Kill Avenue, Dún Laoghaire, Co Dublin, on December 3rd and 4th. The institute runs third-level, programmes in business studies, arts management, English, media and cultural studies, computing in multimedia programming, audio visual media technology, psychology applied to information technology, radio broadcasting, make-up for film and TV, model making, animation, photography, visual communications, visual arts practice, film and television production.
There will be two sessions on Friday, December 3rd from 10 a.m. to noon and from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. On Saturday, December 4th, the opening hours are between noon and 4 p.m. No booking is necessary and all are welcome. For further information, please contact the admissions office at (01) 214 4621.
UCC Information Evening for Mature Students
UCC will host an information evening for mature students on Tuesday, December 7th at 7.30 p.m. in Devere Hall Student Centre on the UCC campus. The evening's programme will include useful advice on the application procedure and on the transition to student life. There will also be an opportunity to meet representatives from all faculties of the university.

Suas Volunteer Programme 2005
The Suas Volunteer Programme is looking for young people (18-25) who want to make a difference. The programme involves volunteering with community-run schools and projects in India and Kenya, where teams will participate in academic and extra-curricular activities. Seamus Heaney Public Lecture
Dr Susan McKenna-Lawlor, managing director of Space Technology Ireland, will give a lecture entitled "Voyages to the edge of forever" on the topic of science and creativity at St Patrick's College Drumcondra, Dublin, on Monday, December 6th at 8 p.m. This is one of a biennial series - the Seamus Heaney Public Lecture Series.
