Institiúid Teicneolaíochta na Gaillimhe-Maigh Eo/Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology Scholarships are available for the first time for the BA i nGnó agus Cumarsáid at GMIT.
The institute will award a number of scholarships for first- year students of the BA i nGnó agus Cumarsáid in September 2004. Each scholarship, which covers one year only, is worth 2,000 and will be awarded on the basis of the Leaving Certificate points achieved, according to the CAO system. Ten scholarships will be available for Gaeltacht students and a further five for students from outside the Gaeltacht.
The BA i nGnó agus Cumarsáid is a four-year degree programme that covers a wide range of business subjects, while providing training in practical aspects of communications. All instruction is through the medium of Irish. The programme is run at GMIT's main campus in Galway and students have an opportunity to spend a period abroad.
The programme has been approved as a suitable primary degree for those who wish to pursue the Higher Diploma in Education, and four of the recent graduates are currently being trained as post-primary business teachers.
Entry Requirements for the BA i nGnó agus Cumarsáid (GA044): An honour in at least two Leaving Certificate subjects and a Pass in four other subjects, including: Pass in mathematics (Ordinary or Higher Level) and C3 or higher in Higher Level Irish.

Why study music?
The Council of Heads of Music in Higher Education recently published a brochure entitled Why Study Music? which is designed to assist prospective music students when making their career choice. It includes contact details of Irish institutions offering music to degree level and copies have been sent to all guidance counsellors and post-primary music teachers in the State. Inservice education for primary teachers
St Patrick's College, Dublin, presents a lecture workshop free to primary teachers on Monday, January 19th, 2004, at 8 p.m. in St Patrick's College, with Mary Slattery of the Applied Language Centre at UCD on the question: "Is learning an additional language possible in the primary school?".
