University College Cork Open Day
UCC's open day takes place next Saturday, October 8th from 10am to 3.30pm. Talks on all honours degree programmes will be repeated regularly throughout the day. Students will be given the opportunity to discuss each degree programme, career options and entry procedures with university staff and current students. Tours of campus, the new Brookfield Health Sciences Complex and the Mardyke Sports Arena will take place during the course of the day. The Glucksman Art Gallery and the visitors' centre will also be open to students. Prospective students, parents and teachers are welcome.

Hunt Museum Lunchtime Lecture Series
The autumn lunchtime lecture series begins today at 1pm in the Hunt Museum in Limerick. The first lecture in the series will be delivered by Elmarie Nagle, who will discuss the life and work of artist James Barry. The lecture series is open to the public and is free of charge.
As a follow up to the lecture, Friends of the Hunt Museum will also visit the James Barry exhibition at the Crawford Gallery in Cork. Full details from the Friends office at 061-312960
Fulbright Awards for study/research in the US
Applications for the Irish Fulbright Commission's annual awards programme for the 2006-07 academic year is now open, with a closing date of November 18th. Awards in the range €15,000 to €18,000 will be made to graduate students who wish to pursue postgraduate studies in the US. There will also be a number of post-doctoral scholar awards of up to €10,000 for one academic year. Applicants must be in a position to outline a clearly defined course of study or research and must obtain their own placements in the US. For further details see www.fulbright.ie
Sexual Abuse and Violence - Responding to Change Conference
To mark its 25th anniversary, the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre will host a one-day conference on Sexual Abuse and Violence at the National College of Ireland (NCI), IFSC, Mayor Street, Dublin on Monday, October 10th. Speakers include author and Irish Times journalist Susan McKay and Irish Times foreign correspondent Lara Marlowe.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Conference
HADD Family Support Group marks its 25th anniversary with a conference entitled "Education, the vital link - ADHD and related conditions". The conference will take place on Saturday, November 12th at Moran's Red Cow Hotel, Naas Road, Dublin 12.
At the conference key experts will examine how education can help those with ADHD and related conditions and how specialist support can help to develop their full potential. Speakers include Fintan J O'Regan, behaviour management consultant, Sharon Weiss, a behavioural consultant in the US, Wyn McCormack, guidance counsellor and resource teacher and Dr Amanda Kirby, founder of the Dyscovery Centre in Cardiff which is recognised internationally for its work on dyspraxia and related specific learning difficulties.

Royal Hibernian Academy Evening Classes
Evening classes at the Royal Hibernian Academy commence on Tuesday, October 11th from 6.30 to 7.40 pm. The first course - Photography and the Gallery - aims to give different perspectives on photographic practice and a series of lectures will be presented by photographers and those with a particular insight into the form. Contributors will include artist Karl Grimes, writer John Banville and artist Michael Durand. The cost of the eight-week course is €60. (Friends of RHA - €50, students €30).
A 10-week course will run each Wednesday from 6.30 to 7.40 pm starting on October 12th. Caravaggio to Vermeer will examine the period 1600 to 1660. This series of lectures will look at the work of major individuals - Caravaggio, Vélazquez, Poussin, Rembrandt, Vermeer, at the establishment of the landscape and still-life genres and the relationships between the arts of painting, sculpture and architecture. The cost is €60 (Friends of RHA €50, students €30).
