Any reading-mongers out there? For teachers who love to see their young charges engrossed in a book, a conference being organised by Children's Books Ireland will be of interest. Discussions, lectures and an opportunity to view the latest in children's literature and be inspired, will take place over two days in October.

Speakers will include Shirley Hughes, Joyce Dunbar and Wendy Cooling. Registration will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday, October 17th, at the Church of Ireland College of Education, Rathmines, Dublin. Saturday's line-up includes a panel discussion on encouraging early reading. There will be contributions to this from guests such as Fiona Garvey, Finian O'Shea and Cathy McKenna. The organisers expect up to 120 to attend, including a large number of primary school teachers.
